A manufacturer of compost bins wanted to make his production process as environmentally friendly as possible. In particular, a reduction needed to be made in the large distances both raw materials, such as the recycled plastic used to produce the bins, and the finished bins were travelling between sites. By collocating the recycling plant, factory, warehouse and offices on the site of an existing recycling plant, transport costs and hence CO2 emissions are cut dramatically. The building is also intended for public use and incorporates a lecture hall to be used for talks and seminars on environmental issues and also for school visits.
